Quickfingers
Joe has a new name. We have dubbed him Quickfingers as a result of a little incident that happened last night at his birthday dinner. We'd finished the main course and it was time to bring out the cheese cake. It was Jamie's job to light the candles, carry the cake to the darkened dining room, and lead the singing of Happy Birthday. The cheese cake was still on its original metal cake bottom, plus we had put it on a china plate. Well, in one of those 'Oh my God' moments, he went to set the cake down in front of Joe, and the whole thing slid off the china plate and went sailing into the air. In that split second it was airborne, the whole room went completely silent. We all knew that the cheese cake would either: a) land in Joe's lap and catch his clothes on fire; b) land face down on the floor or c) splat in a Noveau Art display against the wall. All I could think was, "Thank goodness I made two cakes!"
However none of these things happened. As slick as could be, as if it were a baby running to a parent, that cake slid right into Joe's hands, without one candle even thinking about going out and without one touch of the whipped cream being disturbed. What a guy.
