 Morning Sky at Work
Good-bye Ruby A friend of ours crossed over last night. She'd been sick with cancer for a long time and yesterday we got word that we'd better get to the hospital to see her because she was on her way.
We arrived in the healing room at the hospital at about 6:30 p.m. The healing room, by the way, is the gift of a local architech who's wife died of cancer. It's a beautiful round room, very peaceful and - well, healing. Ruby was lying in bed, eyes closed, holding a white eagle's feather. She had lots of family around her and she looked almost happy. I thought, "She looks ready to go. That's good."
After we left, Joe and I both talked about how at peace she looked, and remarked that no, it wouldn't be long before she was gone. We then stopped in to see Ruby's son-in-law (he was home with the kids, his wife - Ruby's daughter - still at the hospital). While we were there, Darius got a phone call. I heard him say, "Yes, she died just after 5 o'clock today." I was puzzled....who was he talking about?
When he got off the phone, I asked him about what he'd said. He said, "Ruby, she died just after 5 o'clock today." Joe and I looked at one another. "But I saw her breathing at 6:30," I said. Joe too said he'd seen her breathing. The only explanation we could think of was that muscle memory was making it appear that Ruby was breathing when in fact she wasn't.
I expect her funeral will be early next week. She will get a good sendoff.
