Learned something new today: in China university students are not
allowed to get married or become pregnant. Even post-graduate students
do not have this right, but they can apply for permission (but if they
get pregnant they will be expelled for a year). According to articles
in the Chinese press the rules might change soon, and many students are
happy about this.
Personally I feel it's actually not a bad regulation, especially for
young women who might drop out of school once they are married.
Marriage is still much more important here than in the part of the
world where I originally come from. If a woman finds a man who
proposes, she is likely to give up her study to become a house wife or
find a job to support the family.
However, because there is still another law that prevents women from
marrying until they are 20, they are probably already a bit further in
their studies, and so a little less likely to drop out. And if you
wonder what the rules for men are, they cannot get married until they
are at least 22.
