A report by the traffic police showed that on average 4 people die
every day on Shanghai's streets. Although that's a very high figure, it
does not surprise me. Most drivers have hardly any experience driving
(most people just got a car in the past 1-2 years) and also driving
lessons don't really help: in China they teach you to drive a car in a
traffic compound without any real traffic. That, together with
pedestrians and cyclists that have no clue about traffic rules, gives a
perfect playground for nasty accidents.
