It[base ']s Chinese New Year Eve and all of China is either lighting fire crackers or watching CCTV[base ']s annual TV show. I am sitting in front of the TV as well, but combine that with catching up on some emails and writing a log. Happy Year of the Rooster to everyone!

This afternoon I wanted to buy some electronic articles in Zhongguancun, Beijing[base ']s hi-tech area. However, after arriving there I found that all the electronics and computer malls were closed. I thought these were open 365 days per year, but apparently it[base ']s one day less! Then I drove to the area around Full Link Plaza. The 2nd ring road was completely empty, so it only took 15-20 minutes (normally at least double the time). But also here most of the electronics stores were closed. Luckily I found one so I was able to buy some New Years Eve[base ']s presents. After that I went into a supermarket opposite Full Link, but it was so packed in there that I did not buy anything. The lines were so long that you[base ']d have to wait at least an hour just to check out your goods. After a cup of coffee  at Starbucks I bought some DanTa (eggyolk tarts) at KFC and went back home. Although it was rush hour there were hardly any traffic jams. Very unusual for Beijing. It reminds me of 5 years ago, when traffic jams were something new for this city and when you still could drive over 120 km/h on the 3rd ring road!

Tomorrow, China Central Television will air its own version of 24, the popular American TV series that follows a story over the course of 24 hours in 24 1-hour episodes. The show is not called 24, but the story is supposed to be full of action as well. The only difference is that all episodes will be aired one after the other, starting at midnight tonight. That means 24 hours non-stop watching. I wonder if the ratings will be very high after the first two hours or so. Especially because next week or so the show will probably be sold on DVD already!
