This afternoon we spent on the terrace of Paulaner, watching the boats
sail by on the Huangpu river, while enjoying a couple of beers. Very
relaxed. The weather was nice, sunny and about 26 degrees, although
some clouds came in later. We sat at Pudong site of the river, and
sitting there for a while you really realize what a fantastic city
Shanghai has become. The skyscrapers of Pudong behind you, the
classical buildings of the Bund and the skyscrapers of Puxi in front,
plus a mixture of small local boats and huge oceangoing containerships
passing by in between.
Qi had her laptop with her, because we had to discuss some things for
which we needed a computer, and we found that we even had wifi there. A
total of seven connections, of which most did not work. Strangely we
also found a very weak signal for New Heights. This is the restaurant
on top of 3 on the Bund, which was accross the river, at least 300
meter away from us. Can wifi travel that far over water, or did someone
else also name his/her signal New Heights?

Last night we watched Sideways, and it was such a great film that I
decided to mention it here. It is a film about two friends who go on a
one-week wine-tasting (and as it turns out womanizing) road trip
through Califinornia[base ']s vineyards. A mixture of (sometimes black) humour
and a lot of personal dramas. It[base ']s best to watch it with a good bottle
of wine, as there is lots of wine trivia in the movie, and you are
certain to become thirsty from watching the actors drinking bottle
after bottle. I loved it, and it sits in my top-3 for this year (the
others? 1. Ray and 2. Kinsey). If you can get your hands on a DVD or if
it plays in a theatre, go see it!
