[Environmental policy] Bye, Bye, Clear Skies...

At least for now... From the Washington Post via ClimateArk, news that Dubya's "Clear Skies" initiative couldn't make it out of the Senate's Environmental and Public Works committee yesterday (thank you, Lincoln Chafee!). In the near term, this means:
The Environmental Protection Agency will issue new regulations today and next week to set limits on air pollutants, but the rules will not change the provisions in the Clean Air Act that would have been revised by Clear Skies.

Still, I fully expect a rash of "re-interpretations" of the Clean Air Act from the White House's legal eagles, regulatory changes that fall in line with these re-interpretations, and executive orders to round out the package.
