- The 83-Year-Old Dead File Swapper
-
You young wireless whipper snappers haven't got anything on this Rock-n-Roll Granny. She's passed away to that great big network in the sky but someohow she's still illegally trading music on the P2P networks (remind me to get one of those coffins!) - either that, or the RIAA are complete idiots and sued the wrong person again.
The 83-Year-Old Dead File Swapper: "93,000 writes 'Gertrude Walton, a deceased eighty-three-year-old woman, was named as the only defendant in a federal lawsuit filed by a group of record companies. They claimed Walton made more than 700 pop, rock and rap songs available for free on the Internet under the screen name 'smittenedkitten.' Needless to say, the suit has since been dropped.'"

BitTorrent Community After SuprNova Shutdown: "prostoalex writes 'Folks from MonkeyMethods.org have researched the BitTorrent world after many popular destinations (SuprNova among others) have been shut down. Since BitTorrent always relied on the presence of trackers and servers hosting them, MonkeyMethods decided to see whether the shutdown impacted the BitTorrent community. So has the shutdown of centralized SuprNova had any impact? 'In this case, centralization is a feature, not a necessity. Just look at del.icio.us most popular and you'll see BitTorrent sites every couple days, as people uncover new places to find the files they're looking for.''"

13 New Windows Security Vunerabilities: "Petree writes 'Microsoft has given advance notice that on February 8th, they will be releasing patches for 13 vunerabilities. Happily a day later they'll have a nice little webcast so answer questions about the vunerabilities. Windows users, don't forget to run WindowsUpdate first thing Monday morning.'"

Bill Gates Claims OSS Has Poor Interoperability: "XeRXeS-TCN writes 'In yet another example of Bill Gates seemingly 'not getting it' (or getting it just fine and spreading FUD), he has sent out an email to all MSFT's corporate customers, stating that if they are looking for interoperability, they should not look to Linux or OSS software. What he really means of course, is free alternatives trying to interoperate with Microsoft's non-documented proprietary standards.'"
