Indispensable Mac OS X software
I had originally seen this blog entry listing Indispensable Mac OS X software back in 2004 and it has been updated as of last week with a slew of great new entries. See the full list here.

The revised list is quite expansive and even seasoned Mac vets are certain to find several new gems that they had not previously encountered.

  • Browsers and related apps
  • FTP apps
  • Image/graphics editing
  • Text editors and office suites
  • HTML and web design
  • Multimedia players
  • News- and RSS feed readers
  • Record streams
  • File-sharing (p2p)
  • Maintenance program(s)
  • Contextual menu plugins (CMP)
  • Games
  • Miscellaneous
  • Miscellaneous Interesting Links

Of the many benefits of being a Mac user, by far one of my favorites is the seemingly never ending stream of fantastic new software that graces out platform. No two ways about it, software development is hard work and we're fortunate that the fine folks who make up the vast majority of Macintosh developers are incredibly dedicated, hardworking creative geniuses who take great pride in crafting the best software on the planet (Brent Simmons, Wil Shipley, Circus Ponies, Bare Bones, WestCiv, Rogue Amoeba, BlackTree, AdiumX even Apple, just to name a few -- I'm looking at you!). Using poorly designed software is a downright painful experience (just spend a few hours using your garden variety Windows PC these day -- some of the spyware and adware is better written than many of 'real software' on that platform.

We Mac users are extremely fortunate that we have some of best and brightest minds continually designing, coding and implementing new software to make our Macs even better and I for one, thank you all.
