Swiss Vote to Join Schengen BBC NEWS: "Swiss voters have backed joining a European passport-free zone and giving more rights to same-sex couples in separate referendums on Sunday." Whilst visiting some friends in Switzerland recently I was shocked to see the blatantly alarmist anti-Schengen posters. The posters were just about everywhere - airports, train stations, town streets etc. There were even distinct racist overtones to the anti-Schengen campaign. The pro-Schengen campaign was conspicuous by its absence. Its great to see Switzerland gradually moving closer to its neighbours in terms of border controls and even providing some leadership on gay rights. 9:55:29 PM    comment []  trackback []
