new digs for big chief tablet.
likely, not earth shaking news, but the big chief has moved to userland
radio. i figured that if Manila is used at work, then radio should be
used elsewhere. plus, the userland team has been very good to me as i
have learned blogging over the past few months and i could at least
renumerate them in some manner.
over the next few posts, i will attempt to provide an account of my
journey through the blogosphere. not that my tale is illuminating in
any special manner, but to help provide a road map for others that may
follow. this may be meaningful to others who are attempting to
incorporate blogs within a large scale corporate environment.
i say large scale corp environment as my company is a F500 company and
my efforts have been relatively single handed to this point. to me,
both of these elements are significant as size/corp hierarchy is a
major roadblock and being an individual voice in a sea of thousands is
another non-trivial element.
not that i have been without major assistance. in fact, there are many
people that have helped me along this journey. first, all of the blog
pioneers that created this entire landscape. Locke, Winer, Searles for
Cluetrain. to me, without Cluetrain, the entire blogging experience is
without a reference point. it is something that we can always use to
ground our phrases and expostulations. blogging sets the Cluetrain in
motion and the Cluetrain gives blogging a reason. for me, the two are
intertwined, like a Yin/Yang symbol. in fact, if Hugh ever stumbles
across this, maybe, he could artistically represent this on a card.
symbols aside, i only blog because it helps to create a conversation
with the market.
my second influencers have been the bloggers out there now. Rick Bruner
was a very early influence and he was my first window into the
possibilities of business blogging. Scoble and Channel 9 came next and
each demonstrated that a company need not fear blogging. others quickly
followed. notably, Evelyn, Hugh, Johnny, Halley, Jennifer and recently, the Head First gang. Each of these people helps me to envision what can be accomplished with a blog.
finally, before beginning the story, a great deal of credit goes to the
Userland folks that have answered so many stupid questions of mine.
they have also been incredibly patient with my continual benchmark
requests that are foisted upon me by the various IT/web people within
my corp. without the support of Scott Young and his team, i would have
punted the quest a long time ago.
so, now the story can be told....however, like a good suspense writer,
the reader will be kept waiting until the next installment. stay tuned.
i promise it will be worth reading.
