Nerve: A sex icon of the '70s, a Penthouse columnist, a best-selling author, a dominatrix, a sex-positive feminist colleague of Camille Paglia and Annie Sprinkle, a gourmet chef, a theatre producer and now the proprietor of what is arguably Amsterdam's most eccentric bed-and-breakfast (or "bed-and-brothel," in her words), there isn't much Xaviera Hollander hasn't been. More than the frank, lovely face with the naughty smile and predatory gaze looking out from the cover of her book, she is a sophisticated raconteur and formidable intellectual.

Asiansexgazette: "Today I've been doing 'tokkan koji' (urgent rush jobs) from morning to night. That's why my back's been killing me."

The above expression might be used in a conversation between women who work in soapland brothels in Tokyo's Yoshiwara district. To enlighten readers of Shukan Jitsuwa (6/30) to the latest on-the-job slang term, Nami, 23 met the magazine's reporter at an Ikebukuro coffee shop, where she divulged that "tokkan koji" meant climbing atop the customer and moving her hips in a frantically rapid motion to make customer ejaculate more quickly. These rush jobs are likely when the girl is not in the mood to dispense a "real fight," i.e., engaging in slow, sensual intercourse that resembles authentic tender, loving care.

Guardian: James Harmston's letters to his youngest bride threaten fire and brimstone for her refusal to sleep with him. Not only would Rachael, 43 years his junior, have "a lonely miserable life" in this world for not going to his bed, but it would be far worse in the next.

Published in France in 1954, ''The Story of O" knocked a sizable dent in the buttoned-up sexuality of Western culture -- it was, in effect, the literary equivalent of ''The Kinsey Report." Written by the pseudonymous Pauline Réage, the novel tells of the consensual abuse of a young woman at the hands of her lover, Rene, and an older man named Sir Stephen, among many others. Blindfolds, whips, and various . . . devices are introduced, and the novel offers a cool (and for some, cold) testament to the personal liberation that can be found in submission and degradation.

Daily Californian: I’d never really watched porn before, nor was I well-versed in which “jobs” and “shots” make for the best cinema. So, armed with some free time and cable Internet, I sallied forth into cyberspace with all the overconfidence of a novice, determined to locate a few video clips of porn that might appeal to me.

Fox News: Rany Shamloul, MD, studied 92 men who complained of small penis size at an Egyptian andrology clinic in Cairo.

None actually had a small penis. Most were reassured to hear that, write Shamloul, who works at the University of Saskatchewan. His report appears in the journal Urology.
