Book Reviews from participants in the Pollinate Your Mind Summer Reading Club
No second chance by Harlan Coben: This is the second book by Harlan Coben I've read. After the first book, I returned, checked out and ordered additional books by this author. Coben is a master storyteller. Exceptional twists and turns=a plot that always surprises you! Coben has an exceptional gift for writing. Kidnapping and/or loss of a child is a fear that most parents have. Coben wrenches the heart with a believable story with a semi-happy ending. Love this author's work!
Promise Me by Harlan Coben: Another well written mystery by Coben. This book was a great day read. Out of the 4 Coben books I've read this month I prefer the other 3 over this story. Still, Coben has a great sense of humor, seems to strike fear in parents' hearts. He knows how to make you tense, fear, struggle with emotions that all parents have. Children growing up too fast, making mistakes, and launching on their own. Still I consider "Promise Me" a good, no, a very good book.
Last Ride by Tom Eidson: A very different type of book from what I normally read, but the Last Ride was still a good read. There was still some unanswered questions by the book's ending. Why did the father leave? So many possibilities from he himself was forced away from his white family and protect them in some way to other, darker reasons, he never returned to his first (white) family. Like a good mystery this book had many puzzle pieces. The only problem was-when the book was finished you still had a few pieces, or at least a sizable piece missing. Eidson is a good writer I would recommend to any avid reader.
Just take a bite by Lori Ernsperger: Lots of good ideas for kids whose eating problems go beyond a simple "picky eater".
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag: This is the kind of book I'd like to have it be a thousand pages and just leave it sitting by my chair and pick it up any time. I wanted some enjoyment!
