Feeding the Brain and the Soul
I have spent the morning reading The Long Tail---a great book about how markets have changed from focusing on the blockbuster to creating and valuing the many, many sales in small niche markets. It contains much food for thought. Long Tail has implications for the Slingerland teacher training courses. I am not yet sure how it all fits, but I know there is something there. One thing our market place is a niche market. Times and sales have significantly changed since the era of Institute sales for lengthy on-going teacher training courses to large school districts in Texas, Alaska, Montana, and Washington to currently selling a few full training courses and some short courses to small private schools. We still have not been able to clearly identify our new clients and decide how to package our courses and determine how to reach potential new clients and to market and sell to them. It has taken a while (this is a non-profit with its non-profit board) to recognize and admit that times have changed.
For the Soul
The Friday night Concert Association offering---Garrick Ohlsoon---was marvelous. Each selection was--Oh, Wow! I sat listening to the Pathetique with tears rolling down my cheeks. In truth, I think it was a combination of the music, being extremely tired and needing both food and an extra estrogen pill. My concert favorites were the Liebermann and the Prokofiev. Prokofiev is one of my top composers.
The after-concert artist reception was at Daughter. It was truly a successful gathering---lots of people, a very friendly, talkative artist, and great food provided by the Anchorage Concert Associates---the volunteers! Pictures of the reception and a great description of the concert are here on the blog of Daughter.
