Ireland Online - A total of 12 athletes are to represent Ireland at the World Athletics Championships, beginning on August 5, after Athletics Ireland announced their team today.
Six of the team - Robert Heffernan, Olive Loughnane, Karen Shinkins, Derval O'Rourke, Eileen O'Keefe and Peter Coghlan - won national titles over the weekend and showed encouraging form ahead of the Helsinki event.
Irish medal chances are likely to be at a premium in the Icelandic (sic) capital with injury ruling out headline acts Sonia O'Sullivan, Alistair Cragg and Kerry walker Gillian O'Sullivan, who was World silver medallist in Paris two years ago.

FIDAL - The olympic gold of Atene 2004 Ivano Brugnetti has realized evening
yesterday an historical enterprise: it has established the new world-wide
record on the 10km of march in track and is the first man to come down under
the 38 minuteren on this distance. Before he only the Slovak Josef Priblinec
us had approached itself when in the 1985 fixed one the world-wide limit of
the specialty in 38' 02"60.
The marciatore talentuoso that already in 1999 had made to speak about if
gaining to Seville the gold in the 50km of march, yesterday evening has
marched to Sixth Saint Giovanni the 10km in track in the shocking time of 37'
58"60. Ivano Brugnetti therefore, to the threshold of trent' the years
finally seems to have found the maturity and the psicofisica stability in
order to introduce to the world of the march like the new point of reference
and the athlete to strike.
Already the slid year with the Victoria olympic in 20km of march the from
Milan one that heavy medal of gold - won moreover to small table after a
disqualification to finished contest - than in 1999 had been scrollato of
back had carried it to being known and being feared all over the world
athletic. From then they are passes years to you and migliaia of kilometers.
Today Brugnetti is an athlete indeed from medal and it it is not from less
its trainer than always best and discreet Antonio the Tower. From they, to
this point we expect great things in sight of World-wide of Helsinki of
beginning August.
