John Dvorak's essay "The Blog Phenomenon" is getting plenty of linkage and comments, none as interesting as Peter Ford's commentary:
"Cynics have always dismissed weblogs as mere 'trifles of vanity' and this article is no exception. In education, however, vanity is no mere trifle. Teachers are always encouraging students to be vain. Encouraging students to have pride in their accomplishments is the basic currency of good teaching. This drive for vanity is generally veiled in PC terms such as 'building self-confidence' or 'awareness of audience' etc. Weblogs can help in this process of building confidence. As expected, former Enron boss refuses to testify. Kenneth Lay, plans to invoke his right to silence at a Congressional hearing. That means we're in for at least 6 more months of morons in the media.

Goodmorning from Amsterdam, where the world is just a bit wackier than last week as the news reaches us that Britney Spears will speak at MIT. President Charles M. Vest commented, "I am very pleased that Britney will visit and share her thoughts with us.
I think I hear Debbie Gibson's stomach turning....
