CocoaShell abstracts “the process of running and managing a subprogram, usually a command-line tool. With CocoaShell and InterfaceBuilder, you will only need maybe 20 lines of code to create a simple front-end for the UNIX tools built into Mac OS X. CocoaShell can be used in two ways—as a ready-to-use class, or as chunks of code to copy directly into your app.”

Safe and Happy UNIX Hacking with MacOS X. “MacOS X version 10.1 lacks a package management system similar to RPM or deb. This makes quite difficult maintaining UNIX inherited software, which may consist of hundreds and even thousands of files. However, thanks to the Open Source community, managing some UNIX software becomes much more easier and what is very important, safer.”

Blogrolling with Perl, PHP, and mySQL. “Weblogs.com tracks blogs that have been changed. If you go to their home page it lists blogs that have changed recently, and what time they changed. This information is also available as an xml file at http://www.weblogs.com/changes.xml. Adam Curry set up a macro that displays updated blogs the same way. Since I don’t use the same software he does, I decided to see if I could replicate it using the tools I use: Perl, PHP, and mySQL.”
