Drivel:  This is a sad story of another company trying to make open source profitable.  A lot of people have been trying to make a run at making open source profitable over the past couple of years with very little success.  The companies that are making money from open source are being overlooked because they do not lead with an open source or technology centric pitch.  They lead with a business pitch.  One of these companies is my former employer, Accenture LLP.  They attribute more than $500m in revenue to open source technologies.  Of course, this figure represents consulting services sold that are associated with the design, development, and deployment of solutions using open source technologies.  I think if someone were to ask the big systems integrators, and even regional systems integrators, what they are doing with open source technologies and how they are making money from these technologies, the world would be very surprised.
