Drivel: This is my second posted using IBM's ViaVoice.  I'm not going to correct the mistakes that the program makes to allow you to see the types of mistakes did voice recognition currently makes a when dictating directly into an application.  As you can see the mistakes aren't greediness, but they would cause confusion and frustration to less patient users.  1:56:16 PM   comments ()

Drivel: I'm dictating directly into the browser using IBM's ViaVoice.  This is my first post speaking directly to my computer.  This is kind of  fun.  However,  the program does make a number of errors that I will have to go back and correct once I am done speaking.  I can train the program not to make the mistakes that it is making by creating macros or recording specific words in my own voice. Speech recognition has a long way to go before normal users will be able to use it without high levels of frustration.  1:52:43 PM   comments ()

Drivel:  Before I post this, let me qualify this by saying that (1) Jeremy Bowers alerted me to this and (2) this is really geeky.  This is also funny as heck .... ummm ..... hell.  If you do a traceroute to www.jabber.org, the name that you see at the destination reads as follows:  "hades.all-your-IM-are-belong-to-us.jabber.org".  Hey, at least they are open about it.  1:12:34 AM   comments ()

Drivel:  I just got this message when trying to access Yahoo! Groups.  I use Yahoo! Groups quite frequently and didn't see the post that they mention once this week.  It would have been nice to have received an email.  I understand they are moving from Exodus or Global Crossing to Sprint, or something like that.  They should be have been able to engineer some minimal service level during the move.  Come on, guys, haven't we learned anything from the bubble?

Dear Yahoo! Groups Members,

As noted on our web site earlier this week, the Yahoo! Groups service will be down for scheduled maintenance Friday March 15 9:00 PM PST (GMT-8) as we move our servers to a new facility. We expect the service to be restored the morning of Sunday March 17.

During this time the web site will be unavailable and email will not be delivered. (Some users may experience email non-delivery notices, but all email should be delivered once service has resumed.) Please note: Once the service is back up, there will be email delays due to backlog. We expect these delays to last no longer than 1 day. Please do not to re-send email to your group as it will only add to delays.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
