Drivel: Standards and configuration management are so important when managing a large number of servers. I am in the midst of migrating hosts onto a storage area network (SAN) that all of the system administrators thought were up to date and configured properly. We dove into the migration just to find out the exact opposite. Each server had its very own personality. There is no host the same, even though many of them had been created from the same image. What we thought would be a quick three-day job has turned into an eight-day job with the last two days happening over the coming weekend. The amazing thing is that we are only dealing with 50 of some 300 plus servers in this data center. I would hate to stick around and find out what is on the other 250! I know there is a monster in each one of them. 8:19:18 PM
