Scientists says all airplane passengers should pay up to US$65 per flight tax to mitigate hypothesized environmental damage (that jet contrails cause global warming in virtual computer models).

Kind of goes with "The people who make the projections start out with the result in mind and will change the model to get the desired result." (Registration required). He's talking about failed public transit financial models that project huge ridership and low costs, only to build expensive choo choo trains that suck tax subsidies due to way too few riders. As a consultant, I've been hired by companies to build business and financial models where some managers have quietly asked me to adjust the model to favor their preferred outcome. (I have refused to do that, by the way.) So many people forget that a model does not predict the future. A model is only a tool to help understand possible scenarios.
