Recently one of my clients pointed out a problem with Manila's comment interface. He noticed that some sites have an option of allowing comments on on posts, but other sites under his control didn't. All of the sites had the same templates and preferences.

So I did some digging and found a preference without an interface. The preference was there, but there was no way to set it.

Today, I am happy to provide my clients with the interface. With it, you can turn comments on or off for any news item post.

The optionalComments interface is now a part the esdPlugin. To enable it, you will need to disable the plugin (if it is enabled for your site) and then re-enable it. Once re-enabled, you will be able to go to the ESD plugin page and scroll down to the Optional Comments link. Click on it, and then you can enable or disable optional comments.

Let me know if you have any difficulties.
