       Geological time gets a new period. Scientists add a new time period to their official calendar of Earth's history - the first new geological time period in 120 years. [BBC News | News Front Page | World Edition]
Finally there is an agreed upon name for the period before the Cambrian. This doesn't make any difference in our understanding of earth history. But it may make the classifications a little cleaner. 
Much ado about nothing.
