Parking dwindles for Caltrain riders. Besides a ticket on the Baby Bullet train, the only thing in greater demand for Caltrain riders these days is a parking spot. [San Jose, CA - Topix.net]

Caltrain's new express service to San Francisco is so popular that parking at stations is now limited. Sounds like a reason to build BART to San Jose. Oh wait, BART's future transit time to San Francisco, can't match the existing Caltrain service. So commuters will continue to take Caltrain, while tourists and shoppers might take BART.

Does it make sense to spend $4 billion on a project that will not improve on existing service? No. Is this brain-dead project still moving forward? Yes. Why? Ask the Mayor of San Jose.

I finally finish scoring last night's San Jose Giants game. It was a five hour affair, and I got distracted, talking with Jeff and Rita during the middle innings (which turned out to be the 8th, 9th, and 10th).

That meant a lot of catching up, but thanks to the online log and box score, I was able to fill in the gaps.

Five hours for a ballgame might seem a little excessive, but the ending was worth the wait. With the PA system blaring Clapton's "After Midnight", they announced that the game would be suspended at the bottom of the 15th if no one scored. Apparently the airport isn't the only San Jose venue with a curfew.

Fortunately centerfielder Fred Lewis saved us from the ignominy of having to suspend the game "because it's late and we have to get up early", parking the ball just over the center field wall. That is the fitting way to end a long ball game.
