Futility: Minor-leaguer strikes out five in inning. Wild pitch, errant strike Schultz's undoing LANCASTER, Calif. -- Lancaster Jethawks right-hander Mike Schultz struck out five batters in one inning Thursday night in a 19-4 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday night.
It was not immediately known if Schultz set a California League or minor league mark because the statistic isn't kept in the record books.

It sounds like the Jethawks had a tough night. It may have been tougher for the Modesto A's, who where swept by the San Jose Giants by loosing in extra innings for the third straight game. Fortunately, tonight's game only lasted 10 innings, ending on Fred Lewis' bases loaded walk. Monday and Wednesday's marathons lasted 15 and 14 innings respectively.
Lewis played a part in all three wins, scoring the winning runs on Monday and Wednesday and getting the winning RBI on Monday and Thursday. With the sweep, the Giants have pulled to within 1 1/2 games of the first place A's in the northern California League standings
