I have been practicing taking bird and squirrel pictures down on Coyote Creek. In doing this I have discovered that two aspects of the creek sit in stark contrast.

First, it is a haven for wildlife in the middle of a city of nearly 1 million. Many of the neighborhood birds are found along the creek and it is the primary home to the raccoons and opossums who cruise the storm sewers and our backyards.

Second, the creek is a trash collector and receptacle for city of nearly 1 million. Its bed and banks are home to old tires, shopping carts, furniture and trash purposely dumped there. The creek also receives and concentrates litter tossed from cars and dropped by uncouth individuals. This trash is washed down the storm sewers and into the creek where it collects behind downed trees forming large trash rafts.

Two photos display this contrast.
