storage isn't the point Now that all of the web-based email companies are increasing their storage capacity (and places like Yahoo giving their paid accounts 2G's of storage rather than the 1G that GMail gives out), we'll soon see that they missed the point. What's the point of having large amounts of email storage if the tools aren't there to manage that much data? Yahoo, Hotmail, and Excite are all still using standard email interfaces -- they try to look and act as much like a normal email client as possible, which I suppose is great for immediate usability, but doesn't really cover any new ground.
As soon as those accounts start to get large amounts of email, the
shortcomings of their interfaces will become apparant. |
gmail and safari GMail and Safari don't seem to play well together. It works, but Safari will crash pretty randomly. I had it happen easily 5 times last night while exploring GMail. Kind of frustrating. I'm pretty sure it's because GMail makes incredibly heavy use of Javascript. In fact, I would say that GMail is probably the best example of using Javascript to make a very flexible web-based UI.
Yeah, you're going to be reading about GMail for a while here. I'm
really falling in love with it. If I ever get any invitations to give
out, I'll let you know. |
