Poor Man's Macromedia Generator. Would you like to have images in your Flash movies that can be dynamically updated, but can[base ']t afford 1000 bucks... [What Do I Know]  11:32:47 PM

Wow! this is really cool (but useless). What will they think of next? Here it is:
Thanks to Glenn for the pointer to this fantastic Flash hack [Scripting News]

For a similar (but not nearly as well done) effect, visit http://www.kahuna.com and look for the button "Experience an Earthquake... click here". Sorry about the soundtrack. It's part of the deal.  3:53:15 PM

Inquiring minds. Inquiring minds want to know more about the pretty pictures on my statistics page. It's no secret (the source code is available -- it's even fairly well commented), but I'll explain it a bit further.[diveintomark]  1:10:12 PM

Burningbird has made an interesting point on weblog message length and News Aggregator etiquette. Be sure to read her reader's comments below her post.  12:41:08 PM

Burningbird has an interesting story on Google search engine rankings. Burningbird and Victor Echo Zulu are discussing a way to influence Google page rankings. Victor calls the process a "Googlestak".  11:42:42 AM

Andy Rooney. "Computers make it easier to do a lot of things, but most of the things they make it easier to do don't need to be done." [Quotes of the Day]  11:01:20 AM

Image of Stone Age death. Scientists make a replica of the flint arrowhead they now think killed Oetzi the iceman. [BBC News: sci/tech]  10:47:03 AM

Scaling stats. Suffer me for a moment while I point out that the bar chart in my site statistics scales gracefully to handle the case where one site (like, oh, say, Scripting News) brings in lots of traffic. Everyone gets at least one bar, but no one gets more than 125, and everything in between scales appropriately. So there are no bars hanging off the edge of the screen when I get Slashdotted (or, in this case, Winered). I was so proud of that little feature, and I had no way to show it off until today. Good design wins again. [diveintomark]  3:38:01 AM

And now for another post from my trusty six-year old Newton MessagePad via Radio's Mail-to-Weblog feature. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

I spent a little more time looking at The Shifted Librarian Radio weblog. Jenny has done a great job organizing her content using Categories. It looks like she posts her entries to both the home page and a category to make it easier for her readers to sort her posts. She placed her category menu on the right hand side of her Radio template.

On the left-hand navigation is her "Blogiography" which is a nice way to give credit to the sources of her blog posts.

Jenny has also provided a nice search feature compliments of Atomz. If you have never used the Atomz search service, check them out. They do a great job.

Below her posts, she implemented the YACCS commenting system. Pretty cool. I had never seen this used on a Radio blog before. Another cool thing: On January 27, 2002 YACCS added Radio Userland Support. Now when you sign up for a YACCS account, you can specify that you will be using Radio as your blogging tool. Check YACCS out if you are interested in accepting comments from your readers.

Jenny also added a nice user-friendly feature above her calendar. Her "Check this box to open links in a new window" feature is a really nice idea, although it didn't work for me in Internet Explorer on OS X.

It's clear that Jenny spent a lot of time setting up a method to help her organize her Radio blog. She took a standard Radio theme and added nice features to her template that make her log much more user-friendly than your average blog. Nice work!  1:49:17 AM
