a place to write, nothing fancy : At Educause [Christopher Ashley 1999-2002]. "Talk is over, things went great"

Sort of a surreal experience to have been in the audience watching Chris type at the front of the room and then to read about his perspective of the event. I agree...things went great. [Stand Up Eight]

I'm back from Educause 2002.

I got back from Atlanta late last Friday night.  I was very stressed on Monday, making last minute preparations for traveling and speaking -- and therefore doubting the value of spending all this money and time and effort to get myself to Atlanta.  By the time I got to Atlanta and especially after giving our talk, I started to feel very happy.  Of course, I'm relieved to be back in the Bay Area; I'm such a homebody.

I'll have more to write and say today and over the next several days about what happened at Educause, what I learned, and next steps.

Raymond Yee at Berkeley gets it.

"I wonder how many people will know what a weblog is...."

Raymond Yee and his associates from Berkeley did a wonderful job of describing their vision for an open architecture for learning objects.

We are putting together a development team at UNC Charlotte and our eventual focus will be on the development of learning objects with faculty clients. I was VERY intrigued by Raymond's vision for an architecture that would allow various XML-based protocols to interact--namely those from digital library initiatives (METS/MOA2) and Learning Management Systems (LRN). He calls these "crosswalks" and the potential of such tools is astounding. I'm going to get in touch with Raymond and see if he is willing to post some of his materials to his weblog.

My own addition. I was able to say hi to Raymond just before his session - in part due to his posting on his blog. Will write more, but here is one URL I got from my todo list.

ARTISTE - Pan-European Museum Integration. Quote: "ARTISTE (http://www.artisteweb.org/) is a European Commission supported project that has developed integrated content and metadata-based image retrieval across several major art galleries in Europe. Collaborating galleries include the Louvre in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the National Gallery in London. "

Comment: "Raymond" probably already knows about this. [Serious Instructional Technology]
