The Jewish Week: "Nancy begat Martha who begat Doll who begat Gladys who begat Elvis. The genealogy might not sound quite biblical, but apparently it is Jewish. Elvis Presley, that swivel-hipped American icon was the scion of an uninterrupted female line beginning with his great-great-grandmother, Nancy Tackett, nee Burdine, who is believed to have been Jewish. According to the Jewish law of matrilineal descent, that would make the King of rock and roll a member of the Tribe."

Check out the spiffy new look at SIMPLETHOUGHTS.ORG. I like it, even if Charles thinks mychoice of font is pompous. 9:35:10 PM

The Mars Coat-King is God's gift to Bouvier owners. If you've got a long haired dog, or a dog with a heavy undercoat, and don't own one of these, you're missing the boat. And I'm not the type of person who would normally get excited over a dog brush. 8:55:59 PM

Todd Dominey writes (well) about DIY repairs in his old house: "There's an immense sense of satisfaction that comes from tackling jobs like these, and I don't believe it's a 'guy thing' as some may label it. It's about seizing control of your environment, your day-to-day life, and making it better - even if the step is small, or as inconsequential as a stupid light fixture."
I couldn't agree more. I've been remodling my own house, by myself, for the past couple of years, and the project is scheduled to continue at least four more years into the future. Sure, I could pay someone to do it, but where's the fun in that? I might not have built this 40 year old beast, but by the time I'm finished, I will have rebuilt it. 6:53:17 PM
