Anchorage Daily News | Ulmer, Murkowski grab leads: "U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski seized an early and apparently firm lead for the Republican nomination for governor Tuesday night and looked ahead to a November showdown with Democrat Fran Ulmer in a race for Alaska's top elected job."

McSweeney's Internet Tendency: Letters From Elizabeth Miller's Dad, Who Fights Fires While Flying a Helicopter.: "Not too bad a trip. Four fires in six days, seven states, 2,500 miles, one Bates Motel and a Bluesmobile, burning desert, Harrison Ford, a helicopter crash, a fire with no water, Sturgis T-shirts, and only 7,200 total pounds of stuff lifted to chest level. Tonight's dinner (for real Alaskans only): Halibut Tacos

1 lb. skinless halibut
Cajun seasoning or seasoned salt
shredded lettuce
tropical fruit salsa, warmed
1 tomato, diced
1 avocado, diced
sour cream
taco shells or flour tortillas

Season the fish with Cajun seasoning, or something similarly spicy. Grill over a hot, smoky fire for no more than 10 minutes per inch.  Dice fish and blend with fruit salsa to taste.  Assemble tacos with a layer of fish topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, avocados and sour cream.  Serve immediately with cerveza or margaritas.

Our good king will change all that."  7:30:54 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Town struggles with abundance of people with the same name: "At one time, the town also had three Peter Fasts, five Anna Stoeszes and seven or eight Jacob Harders. Also, two Elmer Friesens, who took employing their middle initials -- E. and G. -- to avoid confusion. "I'm Elmer The Excellent," Elmer E. would say, "and he's Elmer The Great."
