Seattle libraries close doors to save money [LISNews.com]

Library staff's creativity finds a way to open branch on Mondays [LISNews.com]

Leaders stand by keeping libraries [LISNews.com]

Tough times require leaders and creativity. We will see more of each in the coming years.  10:53:01 PM

Examining Random Events. This is the first in a series of short articles on complex adaptive systems and how they are being applied to computing. This field is quickly showing us that the way ants discover near-optimal short paths to food can help run a data center. [O'Reilly Network Articles]

Emergent properties of complex systems are important in describing computer networks, biological systems, and effecient networks of human interaction.  10:49:08 PM

Applera, Caltech Accept MJ Suit; Response Due in September [GenomeWeb]

Very interesting. It seems that MJ is going after these patents with all guns blazing, including a 19th century law. I know many of these scientists personally, including Lee and the Hunkapillers. Should be a case to watch out for.  10:45:04 PM

Yes' Anderson takes break from solo project [MacCentral]

I have been a great Yes fan since the beginning (As evidence I submit the fact that I actually listen to Tales of Topographic Oceans all the way through ;-). I have Wakeman's solo albums but think than Anderson's solo Olias of Sunhillow is the best solo effort done by anyone from Yes. I copied my old LP into the digital realm and ripped it to MP3. It is now on my iPod. (He did all the instruments himself).  10:39:12 PM

Stem cells rescue retina [Nature Science Update]

More fantastic stuff from stem cells. Whenever we get complete control of these cells, we will enter a new frontier.  10:24:54 PM

Asteroid Will Miss Earth in 2019 [AP Science]

I am so glad.  10:19:13 PM

I signed up for unemployment this morning. It is so easy these days because of the Internet. I could sign up online and I can ask for benefits online. Not only is this simpler but I am sure it is also cheaper and saves taxpayers money.  10:15:35 PM
