Some at Clear Channel get it

You'll have to register to read the article but it is an interview with Ron Delsener, one of the first and most successful promoters of outdoor concerts. After surviving for several decades, he is now co-chair and co-CEO of Clear Channel Entertainment, a division of Clear Channel Communications. When discussing the problems of the music industry he never mentions piracy. He mentions the consolidation of the radio industry by Clear Channel, the 'payola' schemes that drain money for acts, the lack of creativity in front and behind the mike. He states that industry deregulation by Congress in 1996 has driven many of the problems. He feels that there will be a reversal of this consolidation in radio, TV, cable, radio and newspapers. I wish I shared his optimism, since these are some of the industries that are most heavily lobbying Congress to save their bacon.  11:09:24 PM

New 'Movielink' service lacks Mac support [The Macintosh News Network]

Great. We will be able to download movies on the Internet but only if we use Windows. What a wonderful world that will be! The Big 5 that I will do my darndest to avoid. AOL/Time Warner, Disney, MS, Clear Channel, RIAA. Of course, this prevents me from experiencing most of today's pop culture, so there will be some back-sliding. But I will refuse to see Disney's new animated movie, another ripoff of someone else's creation that has entered the public domain. What will they do when there is nothing left there for them to steal, I mean, adapt? At least Pixar tries to create original work.  10:41:52 PM

Measuring the value of your content [elearningpost]

Measuring the value of content is an important aspect of an intranet project. Finding out if the user actually 'get' your content is critical.  6:43:35 PM

A New Approach to American Politics (or how can the Democrats get their groove back).    A JRo essay.  If I was working with an editor and spent some more time on it, it could be a very good article.  Okay, back to work. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]

Something to think about, particularly the feeling that the Democrats need to project hope.  6:39:43 PM

Useit.Com: Intranet Usability: The Trillion-Dollar Question. In our study, we found that a lack of good management support for intranets had a great impact on quality. In particular, companies with ailing intranet usability rarely had a well-funded central intranet group with clear ownership of the design. [Tomalak's Realm]

This has some really great points. However, the intranet is used for different things by different groups. In research, the intranet is used for displaying and moving data around. Other areas need to act like the company newsletter. Some you need to get forms to print out. Each of these sites need to have their own design approach to be useful. The hard part is making all these areas work well with one another. Making the research area work like a newsletter will satisfy no one. I dealt with this a lot while helping create the intranet at Immunex.  6:35:10 PM

So Seattle Genetics does not have a great pipeline but is still worth looking at? I think I will keep my money in investments that are already making money.  6:26:55 PM
