Radioactive patients set off subway alarms [New Scientist]
As I recall, Barbara Bush suffered from Graves. People getting radioactive iodine set off detectors at a great distance. So, not only can do they have to suffer from the physical effects of the disease and its treatment but they can now be strip searched simply for taking a subway. This procedure is done on several million people. This could be very interesting, particularly with secret detectors. 11:51:35 PM

Plague of pimples blamed on bread [New Scientist]
So, not only is there more evidence that low carbohydrate diest such as the Atkins, is a better way to lose weight but it will help prevent acne. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, since they do have a mechanism to explain the hypothesis if it is true. 11:29:42 PM

The Unfairness of Accuracy. Ladies and Gentlemen, we now have the greatest example ever of why quantified, standardized tests should not be used as... [Joho the Blog]
A great demonstration of why standardized tests are a poor marker. They should be a necessary part of the whole picture, but not sufficient to prevent graduation by themselves. This lady came up witha correct answer that was way off scale from the logical minds that created the test. These tests are simply not vetted enough to make sure that all the answers are really correct. As stated in the article, without any changes in their abilities, almost 500 people can now graduate. Ridiculous. This is like the belief that everything about you are purely determined by your genes. IT IS WRONG!! Emergent beahviors such as intelligence or self-awareness just can not be described by top-down, single factor approaches. We do ourselves a disservice and could potentially warp our society by continuing to believe that some things can be quantitiated. Creativity, knowledge creation and intelligence will always be fuzzy. 11:17:19 PM
