Well, eveything upstreams but the index.html page. It may be that the current set up i am using is having some sort of problem. We shall see.  11:52:40 PM

Origins of Man: Out of Africa, then what?. Straits Times - THE secrets of our genes have reopened the debate over whether all people were descended from the early humans who left Africa about 100000 years ago.

So, we mostly came out of Africa with a little but not much interbreeding with previous immigrants. Not too Earth-shaking and not really something that is producing new debate. More and more data indicate that the Out of africa theory is the dominant one. The details seem to lie in how much intrebreeeding with previous opulations occurred. What is interesting is an apparent bottle-neck 40,000 years ago. There have been ample data indicating a bottle neck but clarifying when has been difficult.   10:52:19 PM

I just spent most of today trying to get files from from father-in-law's old, old mac (a performa 476) moved to his new iMac. The main problem was that his performa has a finicky SCSI connection to the internal hard drive. We'd get the flashing question mark upon startup. Luckily I had made him some Norton Utilities emergency disks but when we put them in, the program would only see the floppy, not the hard drive. We could scan the SCSI chain and get the 0 drive but it was an unknown type and trying to read it resulted in an error. I opened up the coomputer and futzed with the internal SCSI cable. No good. So I tried hard quitting and other messy stuff and miraculousy, the hard drive appeared one time. So I backed up all the important stuff onto floppies. But another problem was a lack of compatible outputs (i.e. floppies on one and USB on the other). After a lot of pain (mainly from trying to get a backed-up version to be read by a USB floppy, I succeeded. Now he has Reunion 8 running on his iMac. I should get paid for this ;-)  10:33:01 PM
