War brings out the Purple People. John T. Flynn, the great Old Right journalist who chronicled Franklin Delano Roosevelt's efforts to sink America into a pit of centralized government and militarism, had a term for those Americans who could always be counted on to whoop it up for war.

These are the people who hate big government budgets and world-changing government programs, yet whose faces turn purple with excitement when that same government racks up huge debts to pay for world-changing programs that involve bombs, troops and missiles. [Orange County Register]

France offers Corsica new deal. In a joint radio and television interview, Prime Minister Jean Pierre Raffarin said he planned to visit Corsica next Monday to put forward proposals for decentralising power.

I'm seeing an increasing divergence between the mainstream media and the translated GRU reports on the situation in Iraq. In particular, the Russians are reporting battles in places that the mainstream media has stopped reporting on altogether.

Iraqi opposition force in S Iraq. US forces begin to airlift fighters under the control of an Iraqi opposition leader into southern Iraq. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]
The force is under the control of the Iraqi National Congress and its leader, Ahmed Chalabi, who will accompany his troops into Iraq.
The arrival of this crook and his private army demonstrate quite clearly just what sort of "liberation" the US government has in mind for the people of Iraq.
