Macworld review: Dreamweaver MX 2004. Dreamweaver has become an indispensable part of any Web-site developer's tool kit, and Dreamweaver MX 2004 is the latest incarnation of Macromedia's powerful Web-site development tool. [MacCentral]
Unfortunately Macromedia has abandoned Mac support with this version--it's only available for OS X and Windows. Fortunately, my copy of Dreamweaver 4 is still working fine.

REAL World 2004 to gather REALbasic users. Austin, Texas-based REAL Software Inc. on Friday announced plans for REAL World 2004, the REALbasic user conference. The event will be held March 24 - 26, 2004 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. REALbasic is REAL Software's cross-platform design environment. The development platform is used to create everything from simple utilities to enterprise applications. [MacCentral]
Austin is only a 36 hour train ride, so (work permitting) I think I'll try to go.

Tapes Show Abuse of 9/11 Detainees. Hundreds of videotapes that federal prison officials had claimed were destroyed show that foreign nationals held at a New York detention facility after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were victims of physical and verbal abuse by guards, the Justice Department's inspector general said yesterday. [Washington Post]
Fortunately the incompetence of government thugs often extends to incompetence in covering up their crimes. However, I doubt anyone will be punished in any way, even after being caught on videotape. More likely the victims will now win settlements which the government goons will pay for by stealing more money from honest people.

Bremer Escaped Iraq Ambush Two Weeks Ago [AP World News]
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said President Bush was only told about the attack on Bremer after the first news reports surfaced about it. He declined to explain why Bush wasn't told earlier.
I find it interesting that Bush's subordinates are hiding bad (or in this case, embarrassing) news from him. That sort of behavior is common when one's superior is a vicious thug, and explains why power-mad dictators often seem so cut off from reality--they literally are cut off, by subordinates who are afraid to give them any bad news.

Personal Responsibility Bias. Apparently, the most recent edition of Litigating Tort Cases, the bible of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America contains a chapter advising attorneys to identify people with "extreme views on personal responsibility." Warning signs for "personal responsibility bias" include espousing "traditional family values" and holding "strong religious beliefs." What to do about these folks? "The only solution is to identify these jurors during voir dire and exclude them from the jury." (Hat tip: Radley Balko.) [Hit & Run]
The article contains a great deal of discussion on whether it's acceptable to exclude jurors based on their religious beliefs, but never once addresses the fact that lawyers are openly trying to get rid of people who believe in personal responsibility.
