The front page of the Los Angeles Times today had a headline which revealed quite a bit about the ignorance of Times employees. The headline was, "Massachussetts Grants Gays Right to Marry." The notion that the state grants rights--to marry or for anything else--is directly contradictory to the principles that America was founded on, that rights are inherent in every human and the purpose of the state is only to protect those rights. It's sad (if unsurprising) to see such clear evidence that the staff at the LA Times is at best completely ignorant of what America is all about (and they may simply be outright anti-American).

A more accurate headline would be "Massachussetts Acknowledges Gays' Right to Marry," or perhaps the more wordy, "Massachussetts Bans Discriminations Against Gays in Marriage Laws."
