There was an article in the Los Angeles Times today about the upcoming referendum in Taiwan that President Chen is backing. The article displayed the disgusting attitude by many countries which give lip-service to democracy towards even a small step towards a public acknowledgement of the self-evident fact of Taiwan's sovereignty.

There was also this excerpt, in case anyone has forgotten just how concerned President Bush really is with democracy and human rights:

In December, with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at his side, President Bush warned Chen that America would oppose any unilateral change in the status quo, a delicate arrangement under which Taiwan has enjoyed most benefits of an independent state yet has left unchallenged China's claim over the island.
