Death means no appeal
I was looking for an update on the Joseph Amrine case. I am not a fan of the death penalty. My reason comes down to one issue, you can not fix a mistake once it is carried out.
The case of Amrine is the most obscene miscarriage of justice I have ever read about. There is no evidence left, the witnesses have admitted they lied (prison snitches), the jury forman says he's innocent, and the only credible witness that was there (a prison guard) says he's innocent. Yet the State of Missouri is absolutely set on killing this man. No he's no saint, but he doesn't deserve to die for a crime he did not commit. The State of Missouri does not care about justice, they simply want to carry out the sentence.
This should come as no surprise in a nation that up until this June 2002 executed defendants with Mental Retardation. We also execute Juvenile defendents. Since 1990, juvenile offenders are known to have been executed in only seven countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Pakistan, Yemen, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.
