Finding proof...

My code's bigger then your code...
I'm working on converting a bunch of word douments into web pages. It really is a remarkable process. You can take a Word and use word to save it as an html document. Or you can cut and paste the content into another program and format the html yourself.
The difference is simply amazing and shows just how inept Microsoft can be at doing the most basic things. The Word generated document weighs in at 333k, while the hand coded document is 43k. The Word html document consist of 11,369 lines of code, while the hand coded document is just over 600 lines.
I now understand how Micorsoft can end up with over 40 million lines of source code in XP, they used Word to generate it...mj

Senate Blocks Funding for Pentagon Database
Saying they feared government snooping against ordinary Americans, U.S. senators voted on Thursday to block funding for a Pentagon computer project that would scour databases for terrorist threats.
By a voice vote, the Senate voted to ban funding for the Total Information Awareness program, under former national security adviser John Poindexter, until the Pentagon explains the program and assesses its impact on civil liberties...more [Yahoo News]
I blogged this threat to personal freedom back in November. It's nice to see that Congress had the same issues with it that I have. Poindexter; a convicted criminal with a history of lying to Congress, is the wrong man to helm this project, even if it were of real value. The bad part is that Congress did not kill it; the Democrats wanted to, but Republican lawmakers only agreed to request a review and more information about the program. The idea that the Defense Department should be doing internal surveillance is a scary one at best, a terrifying one at worst...mj
