All things end, reflecting on Farscape
Last night marked the end of one of the most unique Sci-Fi shows ever produced. The one thing that I liked about Farscape was that it dared to step well outside the boundaries of traditional Sci-Fi space shows. It gave us a universe crawling with different species. It gave us wild episodes that tested us (sometimes too wild). It was willing to drop the ear/forehead/nose human species of the week concept. It's aliens were strange, weird, and varied. They had different perspectives that supported the concept cultural relativism. Some you would want to meet, some you would want to run and hide from.
While Star Trek and Babylon 5 (yes I love them too) were morality tales with a human center, Farscape was a morality tale that was seen from a human perspectiveand had an alien center. The line between good and evil, pure and corrupt became blurred as we saw the truth in what G'Kar said in Babylon 5:
"The universe is driven by the complex interaction between three ingredients: matter, energy, and enlightened self-interest."
At least it dared to be different. Yes, at times it became too much of a soap opera, but it was a damn entertaining soap opera. TV is a little less for the loss...mj

Exposing the lies
Check out the information and facts put together by Dan Bricklin. He tackles the numbers from ten years of CD and Cassette sales (91-01). The numbers are pretty damning. Bricklin then goes on to attack the way the industry has used those numbers.
It's not a pretty picture. As CD's have taken over from Cassettes as the dominant media format, the amount of money the industry makes has risen dramatically. Revenue per unit sales went from $9.78 to $14.19. That's a revenue increase of 45%!! The real problem here is discontent over price structure, and an industry that is hell bent on ticking off it's customers, and killing it's future. Perhaps they might want to go kill computers, game boxes, cellphones, and other items people spend disposable income on....mj
