As you may have noticed I'm playing here with a new technology I'm now calling "Voice Over". VO sends small voice quality files over the Internet. VO can be used with/for building tools todo "Voice Over Blogs", "Voice Over Email" and other IP based applications that need to send voice audio files over the Internet. Even though it combines voice files with IP it presently has nothing to do with the traditional Voice Over IP being developed by the telephone and netwoking equipment manufacturing companies.
When you see this icon on my weblog click it. It's a audio file, probably a wave file. As I look around weblogs today I see alot of text, no audio (not even on Radio). When people think of blogs today, they think text. All links are usually to webpages with more text. As blog development moves forward text blogs will integrate many media types. Because we will not only be dealing with text links, uniques Icons for different media types (like the one above) can be used to signal the reader about the link.
Yea I know you can add audio files to all of the popular weblog servers. But why don't I see more audio/voice files linked on weblogs today? Because it is never easy. In some cases it is as difficult as using FTP with notepad for html uploading/editing. It seems for some reason weblog tool development has not focused there yet. Also computer audio hardware is still not where it needs to be. What is needed for "voice over blogs" to take off is a couple of proof of principle audio software tools, computer/Internet aware audio gadgets (integrated with something like WIFI or bluetooth would be cool), online tutorials, media attention and most importantly a high profile weblog that uses them all.
Then Voice Over Blogs will be main stream.. And what about "Voice Over IP" ? Good question. Voice Over Blogs could be the first true "Voice Over IP" for the mases.
