Cheap, up-to-30-device Ethernet-to-Wi-Fi generic bridge from Linksys: Not only is the device I've been predicting and wishing for, but it's cheap: suggested price of $129. The device accepts a single device or a hub connection and can retransmit up to 30 downstream devices. 3Com sells a competing device that works with up to four Ethernet devices for about $250 street price. The unit supports WEP.

Lets start by agreeing howto embed voice files in a blog post.

We will need to agree on a voice file icon, probably needs to be a little bigger than the Radio permalink icon. The icon will represent the visual clue that there is a voice file in the blog post. The icon would then be linked to a audio file (mp3 or wav). We also need to agree on a standard alt tag for the voice icon that can be later parsed to identify the link as a voice file.

By embeding the voice files in the blog post, we can use existing blog tools like Radio and build upon them. Present blog text writing tools are not voice file embedding friendly enough for any continous efficient blog/voice file embedding work. But they are a existing starting point that we can enhance and evolve quickly.

The main thing is lets keep the first bootstrap step(s) simple to gain traction.

What do you think?

Read the following on [Adam Curry: Adam Curry's Weblog] weblog today.  Cool.

I've been thinking alot about audio blogging today. Some interesting comments came in yesterday, including a pointer to some direct to mp3 recording software for OSX. I was so excited that I bought the software immediately, only to find out that it probably needs an update to work properly on my Jaguar upgraded system.

So for now I'm resorting back to my current sequence: Record with AudioX1.0, then convert to an mp3 file with mAC3dec.

If I'm reading a long piece and I mess up, I can always to a quick edit in quicktime.

Ofcourse none of this process is integrated into the act of blogging. It really needs to become an automated part of the process.

Now I don't think this is going to be something everyone will want to do. But it makes perfect sense for me to read other people's writing and post the audio on my weblog. This would work especially well for those longer essays that we all love to point to. Now when I point to one, I'll also give you the option of hearing me read it. A couple of those a day and you might really have something fun to listen to!

Keep the suggestions and comments coming. I think we're on to something here.
