Turnpike traffic will be live on the Internet

Turnpike traffic will be live on the Internet
Starting this summer, commuters can sit in front of their computer to make sure they do not sit in traffic. The New Jersey Turnpike's Web site will simulcast live images of the roadway through Web cameras installed at various interchanges. FULL STORY  PLAY THE VIDEO

Cool.  This is the road I spend 10 percent of my day life and the road that played a role in my piece "What is autoblogging?".  How about hooking up some open WIFI to those Web cameras?  Then I could wiblog, autoblog and especially audioblog what I'm seeing to my fellow Turnpike drivers.  H.G.

Transcription Portlet

Transcription Portlet. alphaWorks : Transcription PortletTranscription Portlet is a voice portlet for transcribing telephony-based dictation. This technology makes large-vocabulary speech recognition technology available to telephony-based portal applications (portlets). It provides Java APIs through which developers can integrate transcription capabilities into a portlet application. Oh, I could certainly use one of those. Verizon hits switch for NY hot spots

Verizon hits switch for NY hot spots [CNET News.com]

"available exclusively to Verizon Online customers at no extra charge"

With practically a pay phone at every major corner in metropolitan areas, this service just gave Internet Broadband users a reason to switch from cable modem to DSL.  This also gives Verizon a real reason to keep their pay phone infrastructure moving forward.  Question: If you live close to a Verizon pay phone do you hard wire your Internet connection or just consider the WIFI?

Russ,  looks like "real spotblogging"  or its parent "wiblogging" is not far off.  H.G.

Traffic news on your GPRS phone

Traffic news on your GPRS phone. Jam today - none tomorrow?

"It highlights the issue that services delivered to users on the move have to take into account not only of form factor, but modus operandi of the user. Devices such as mobile phones should demand no more than one eye and one hand for effective use - any more than that, and they've become a PDA."

[The Register]

"Devices such as mobile phones should demand no more than one eye and one hand for effective use " Huh.

How do you use one eye?  Occasional glancing maybe.  Saying use only one eye, is like saying focuss with only half you brain.  H.G.
