Mike Sanders says that the future is in HTML, Scoble?

Mike Sanders says that the future is in HTML.

Mike: here's a secret from your big old evil Microsoft employee (me): HTML is a first-class citizen in Longhorn. It ain't going away... [Robert Scoble: Scobleizer Weblog]

First lets remember that Scoble is an Evangelist for Microsoft.  His future at Microsoft depends on how well he can sell Microsoft's future to us.  Knowing this makes it real easy to see through his rap.  He is by definition bias.

Scoble's angle of late is to convince us that if Microsoft leaves HTML alone, no wrong done, right.  He uses the old playground tactics "if they (Macromedia and Adobe) can do it, we should be able to and not be considered bad since we're just following, right".  His remarks lead and try hard to convince us that the world we all surf today is filled with a majority of flash and pdf files.  The fact is, even though their numbers are impressive, Macromedia and Adobe have really only played with extensions, and haven't succeeded in removing the main Web doc open standard itself, the big guy, html from the web.

The point he's missing (or pretending to miss) is the people want one open, standardized main networkable document model.  The vendors can innovate all they want by using the extensions made available to them with this model.  That's what works best for all.  Play with the extensions but don't waste your time trying to move out the big guy, html.  Remember we're watching, weblogs at hand.

It's in the interest of everyone that the great looking apps of 2005 are developed using open standard doc technologies.  The difference this time is we are all looking, watching and talking along the way.  Not just at the scene at the end complaining or trying to figure out how it all went wrong.

Scoble, you seem like a nice guy and mean well.  But no thanks, no matter how pretty I won't give up my values or most importantly "our and the future's stake in the web".  NICE TRY!!!!

Scoble on jobs moving to India

Martin Spedding tells a cautionary tale of all of our jobs moving to India.

... A past boss told me "always be trying to get someone else to take over your current job responsibilities." What was his lesson? Taking that attitude on forces you to learn what the market will need next. That's how to add value to your economy. That's how Silicon Valley works. Get rid of the jobs that can be done by someone overseas working for $5 a day. Take on a job that requires real innovation. Real value. Real integration with the best brains in the business....

The Weblog Network

MindPlex: The Weblog Network.  I should have a project/business plan (although for all intents and purposes this will be operated to maximize revenue for the authors) for this by the end of the week.  This will let me prioritize the steps necessary to bring this project to fruition.  I am working already on some of the nuts/bolts, and asking questions along the way (and getting great answers too by the way -- thanks).  BTW, anybody have feedback on the conceptual design I hacked together for the front door to the Network? Scoble on Joi Ito's microcontent trend rant

Joi Ito, in a must-read rant about microcontent trends says "Microsoft will continue to dominate the desktop, but it will become less relevant as consumer electronics companies embrace open standards and use Internet web services and applications to make consumer electronics devices rich with content."

Um, Joi, did you have some bad sushi before you wrote this?

Let me explain why you're wrong... [Robert Scoble: Scobleizer Weblog]
