Review: Play@TV Network Media Adapter

I wonder how this box compares to Gateway's entry a few months back.  Looks like in 2004 we'll see a lot of these sub $300.00 media adapters.  Reminds me of the WIFI home access point a few years back.  I'm surprised some of those players aren't here yet.

Even though I see this box being positioned slightly for the home with it's low cost, I believe it has a greater potential for adoption in business and education.  IMHO I still see the home media center that includes large storage solving more media problems in the home and having greater adoption in the home even with the extra cost.  I know this first hand as I had to make this exact decision for my home just last weekend.

Review: Play@TV Network Media Adapter. Leadman Electronics, the sole-distributor of the iCube Play@TV in the U.S., invited us to a review their soon-to-be released Play@TV network media adapter--available Dec. 15th. We’ve commented on such devices in the past, but we’ve got to say this device... [eHomeUpgrade | The Home Networking & Digital Lifestyle Weblog]

VoiceXML Santa Claus

Isn't it great to see that Santa and the remaining elves(the one's that didn't take the package) still can find the time to play with all the new techno toys.  Even with this year's downsizing, I see why they still love there jobs.

WombatNation: VoiceXML Santa Claus. "Now here's something every kid will love. Santa Claus and his elf Pixel have been outsourced as VoiceXML applications. I guess wages for customer service reps at the North Pole have gone up too much. "

Blog'n Culture

Conversations with Dina: Blog'n Culture.

The PS Magazine has an article on blogging - Blog'n Culture.  Talks of blogging as a form of meditation, a discipline that allows you to discover your creative self and find a voice, the power of one when you communicate through your blog, and its relevance in developing global communities.  Also has some interesting stats - Phil have you seen this ?

Thanks Avi for the link - Avi's just risen to the top of the ranks on Ryze as the person with the most guestbook entries - he's promised to 'tell' his networking story to me - am waiting !

Some excerpts :

"You only have to look around you to see that things are changing fast, and that new words are being included in the dictionary to go along with them. And so “Blogging” has entered the language. What started in 1994, as little more than inspired writing of online diaries, has now become an online subculture encompassing tech blogs, teenage blogs, corporate blogs etc.; and you had better catch up."

The Blogging Process

This post from Dave Pollard is somewhat old but still relevent.  When one audioblogs the overall process remains the same as Dave's describes except we add audio recording along side or in place of the writing process.

The Scobleizer Weblog: The Blogging Process "Dave Pollard writes about the blogging process. That sounds pretty good to me."

One more thought on social networking and then I'm done

VentureBlog: Conserving Social Capital "I know that at this point I've basically beaten the social networking horse to death but I want to offer one more thought on it and then I'm done. I swear."

The bone phone

I rather think the ears were put there for a reason.  IMHO, I believe eventually we'll have miniature speakers mounted near, from like rings or mounted (ear glue) in our ears that are connected wirelessly to some low powered wireless technology like Bluetooth.  People have rings in their ears today why not hang something useful from them.  In near future, using a cell phone will look so early 2000.  And leave the bones for the dogs.

Gizmodo: The bone phone. "Sanyo says they're going to launch the first cellphone with a bone-conduction speaker that can vibrate the sound directly into your skull rather. The idea... "
