The font fix is in? I have removed all font suggestion information from the style sheets in my local Radio templates. We'll have to see how this goes. If it causes someone a problem (e.g. my page looks like crap), please report it.

I'm not going to go fully CSS because I don't think it will work well for everyone. Right now, in a shipping browser (OmniWeb 4.0.x), Mark Pilgrim and Deadly Bloody Serious look like spaghetti leftovers (I finally checked in IE and they look pretty nice). I'm trying to get my mom to read this in a browser from 1998 having no idea how badly things look there. What's a good browser from the '98 time frame to use as a guideline? Netscape 4.0.x or do I need to go even further back?

Naval silliness This is a damned fine SatireWire piece. I found it on Deadly Bloody Serious, Garth found it via Plastic.

The Canadians have a navy, yes. Like their British friends, they get to drink two pints per day. How do I know this? Somewhere in my hazy past I served in the US Navy, and we did a crew exchange between the cruiser I was on (USS Texas [GCN-39] I think, but it could have been while I was still on the USS Mississippi [CGN-40] -- I spent time on both) and a Canadian Destroyer during some sort of exercise (probably a NATO thing).

Skipping past a lot of details I don't remember, there was a negotiation and ultimately the Canadian sailors had to leave their beer behind. They were a little amazed at how uptight the US Navy was and had more understanding of why young American sailors go absolutely nuts when they hit port. Speaking of which, have I got some sea stories... someday I'll get to them.
