modern day sequestering

Jurors surf the web...
Jurors surf the web - and this causes dismay to judges.  It's something that trial lawyers should think about.  If a juror has a high speed connection at home is it realistic to think she won't do a little surfing at night between trial days?  Shouldn't the trial lawyer know what sort of stuff they might come upon?  Could this be a new field for consultants?  The Internet information specialist, who works hand in hand with the jury consultant.  [Ernie the Attorney]

So, if you're chosen for a jury and you're sequestered, do you have to relinquish your web-enabled phone, too?

Weblogs as precursor to MyLifeBits
Gordon Bell is working at MS on MyLifeBits, a device (?) that records everything in your life as it happens. As storage space becomes cheaper, the rate of personal information that can be recorded increases dramatically. I imagine my weblog as a portal to my personal information, and I've been keeping as much digital data as I can, going back to 1990. I also have tons of paper-based notebooks full of notes and illustrations... sure wish I could digitize those, too!

more powerbook repairs
I had to sent my powerbook back into Apple for further repairs related to the Airport slot on my motherboard. I just got it back today, and the backlighting on the screen is now flickering whenever the screen is turned on its hinge. I called to open a new case #, but their computers are down (!) and a dispatch # won't be issued til tomorrow, and the repair box probably won't show up until next Tuesday!
