PyTextile, reStructured Text, and RU-HTMLite

Last Wednesday, Mark Pilgrim published his Python port of Textile, the quick "lite" markup system from the folks behind Textism. Mark's version is called PyTextile.

In the comments (#5), I asked about a comparison of Textile with reStructured Text and with the even lighter markup that Radio UserLand implements. (reStructured Text is being used in some of the official Python documentation; it is described in these two spots: http://docutils.sourceforge.net/spec/rst/introduction.html and http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/rst/quickref.html ).

Mark's reply (comment #6) noted that reStructured Text is better suited to larger, more formal documents while Textile works better for informal bits like weblog entries.

And Dave Winer happened to mention today that he had published (a year ago today) a textEditingCheatSheet for Radio UserLand.

I guess it's time to hook PyTextile up to Phil Pearson's bzero weblog tool.
